Ekaterina Bonk: Expressing yourself through music and style: what influence does an outfit have on the audience?
Expressing Yourself Through Music and Style: What Effect Does Your Outfit Have on the Audience?
Clothes help create a mood and atmosphere, highlighting the individuality of the performer. For example, rock musicians often choose bold and extravagant outfits, while classical performers may prefer elegant and sophisticated looks. Each style of clothing can tell a story, emphasize the character of the song and make the performance unforgettable. In the end, singing is not only a voice, but also an art of complete visual perception, where each outfit becomes part of the musical narrative.
What style of music do you consider your work to be? How does this affect your choice of outfit on stage? What inspires you?
I am a versatile artist. I perform both original compositions and work as a cover artist, so my range of musical compositions starts with musical theater and up to rock performances, but my personal preference is acoustic rock.
If I perform original compositions, then these are more calm and relaxed images in a casual style with elements of leather, and if these are cover projects, then there can be glitter, rhinestones and heels
Do you often sacrifice your comfort for the sake of a stylish outfit? What fashion trends do you like or dislike at the moment? Why?
It happens, it happens, sometimes I have to wear heels, I can't stand them, my shoes are something flat: sneakers or a small platform, unfortunately, sometimes my preferences go to the background. At some performances you need to be in a classic style, mainly when it is related to the work of a "cover artist".
Are there any artists who inspire you with their style?
Yes, there are such artists, I really like the way Yulia Parshuta dresses for her concerts. She has an exquisite style: dresses, corsets, trains, which looks very attractive, it cannot be attributed to the classics or absurd simplicity. As for fashion trends, I do not follow them very much, since I prefer a comfortable style that suits the musical repertoire, so everything depends on the choice of music. Now the compositions that appear are not very intellectually gifted, accordingly, the choice of clothes is as simple as possible: jeans, T-shirts, T-shirts. I also do not like naked images, because I believe that artists should stand out with their voice, charisma and talent, and not their body
Tell us about your most memorable outfit on stage, how did you choose it?
And here I don't even know what to answer, since my outfits do not pretend to be something supernatural. Although a long time ago there was either a graduation at a music school, or a return concert, I was still into choral music, and I had a very beautiful classic floor-length dress, burgundy color. This image can be classified as the most memorable outfits.
Do you think that the image on stage affects the perception of music, if so, then how exactly?
Of course, the image influences the perception of music, because if it is an opera, and you are dressed in jeans and a torn T-shirt, then a slight dissonance occurs. We have a complex picture, where the quality of the compositions should correspond to the quality of the outfit. The appearance must always match the inner feelings of the performer and his music
What brands or designers do you like, do you have favorite things from them?
To be honest, I don't follow designers at all. I'm quite "simple" in my choice, I like simple things, I choose ordinary, stylish and bright looks for concerts. From time to time, clothes contain glitter, so that the viewer's eye catches, but I don't follow trends and fashion shows, especially if we take them from the category of "trash" looks, then I'm very far from it
Do you have "lucky" things or a certain color when choosing an outfit for concerts?
All my outfits are selected to suit the mood and concept of the concert, and the audience is also taken into account. Accordingly, I cannot say that I have any “lucky” things, just things that will be comfortable to be in, including in the company for which the event is held. I am not attached to things, I am not superstitious in this regard. The main thing is comfort.
How do you see fashion in the music industry in 5-10 years?
It is difficult to summarize everything in one word, because the music is quite versatile and the styles are varied. Trends in music develop differently and 5-10 years is a huge period when people's perception of compositions can change dramatically from stupid "pop" to serious vocal songs, from which the direction in clothing will move. If these are dance tracks, then the "garage" style will do, which is lighter and freer, and if the music moves in a more serious direction, which, in my opinion, would be very desirable, then this is a more classic style that does not go beyond the comfort of the performer.
What style advice could you give to your fans?
I am for convenience and at the same time beauty, so that it does not blur the eyes and so that a person himself enjoys his appearance, without comparing himself with others, just feels himself as he is on the outside and corresponds to his inner feelings.
